An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his concerns.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police a second time.
She said the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
