The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined direction.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire message from the president's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our audience.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving him in the coming days. We are all eager to continue seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
