World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
